"Human
Rights Challenges in
Contemporary Latin America"
March 9, 2000
Guatemalan
human rights lawyer and CLAS visiting scholar Mynor Melgar
gave a public lecture on human rights in Latin America
on Thursday March 9. Melgar has worked on a number of
prominent human rights cases, including the murder of
human rights advocate Bishop Juan José Gerardi
and slain anthropologist Myrna Mack. He spoke specifically
about Guatemala but also the broader context: the aftermath
of the Cold War and the battles fought in its name throughout
Latin America.
