CLAS
promotes student research through several grant programs:
• Summer
Field Research grants cover
travel expenses so that graduate students can conduct pre-dissertation
investigations
abroad.
• Small travel grants are awarded to graduate students so that
they can present papers and gain exposure to a network of researchers
in their field at the Latin American
Studies Association International Congresses.
• Working groups that CLAS funds bring together graduate
students and faculty on issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean.
Working
Groups
CLAS
funds Working Groups on
issues related to Latin America and the Caribbean. A Working
Group brings together groups of faculty and graduate students
to discuss a common set of questions from a variety of
disciplinary, theoretical and/or methodological perspectives.
CLAS will provide up to $500 per year which may be used
for photocopying materials, transcription and printing,
costs related to meetings, or visiting speakers (other
budget categories specific to the
program may be proposed). Proposals should include a
one-page description of the project, activities planned,
and background of the participants, as well as the name
of a faculty advisor. A separate page should include the
amount of funding requested and the categories of expense.
Existing working groups applying to continue their projects
should include a final report
of activities previously funded by CLAS. Please submit
proposals to Sara Lamson, Vice Chair of CLAS.
LASA
Travel Awards
CLAS is pleased to provide a modest travel grant to a limited number of graduate
students in order to help defray the cost of attending the Latin American Studies
Association International Congress in Montral, Canada. Preference will be given
to students presenting a paper at the conference. Please note that funding is
limited, and requests will be processed in the order received.
To apply, please submit the date, time and title of your talk along with a 150
word abstract to Dionicia Ramos at diony [at] berkeley.edu
DEADLINE: Monday, August 20, 2007
